Saudi Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Public Security, has unveiled an advanced AI-powered platform aimed at enhancing pilgrim safety during the Hajj season.
Launched in partnership with the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), this AI-powered platform falls in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, marking a key milestone in digital transformation and surveillance integration.
The platform integrates AI with remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) to process high-resolution satellite imagery, providing comprehensive, real-time insights into the Two Holy Mosques and the holy sites.
It allows authorities to monitor heat islands, identify irregular patterns, and analyze environmental and crowd dynamics, providing critical data and comparisons between current and previous Hajj seasons. This contributes to improved crowd management, enhanced safety, and the secure performance of Hajj rituals.
Furthermore, the AI-powered platform will strengthen coordination among various security sectors and government agencies, enhance field response capabilities, and provide a unified operational picture to guide proactive planning and service development.
Recently, SDAIA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, has introduced ‘Sawaher System’, which harnesses the potential of artificial intelligence technologies to analyze broadcasts, video recordings, and images taken by smart analysis cameras, thereby enhancing advanced analytical capabilities while contributing to a safer Hajj experience for pilgrims.
More than 5,000 cameras have been installed and integrated into the Sawaher system, covering over 80 permanent and seasonal locations across the holy sites and major land and air entry points.
