The Centre for Space Futures of Saudi Arabia has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Bologna to strengthen cooperation in the fields of space law, regulation, and related policies, reflecting both institutions’ commitment to advancing structured collaboration in areas of shared strategic importance.

The memorandum sets a framework for joint research, professional training, internships, and capacity-building. It aims to strengthen ties between academia and policymaking while advancing governance approaches suited to the evolving space sector. Through this partnership, both sides will combine rigorous legal research with practical policy engagement.

Centre for Space Futures Managing Director Eng. Mishaal Ashemimry said that the partnership strengthens the link between academic expertise and practical space policy. She noted that working with the University of Bologna will deepen capabilities in space law and support informed responses to emerging regulatory challenges. She added that closer collaboration between research institutions and policymakers is vital for responsible, sustainable sector growth.

Prof. Federico Casolari, Head of the Department of Legal Studies at the University of Bologna, stated that the memorandum with Centre for Space Futures marks a key step in strengthening collaboration between academia and global policy institutions. He noted that the partnership will expand opportunities for joint research, advanced training, and academic exchange in space governance.

Prof. Casolari added that deeper institutional cooperation is essential to address the complex legal and regulatory challenges arising from the continued growth of space activities.
