Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been awarded the Innovative Power Technology of the Year- UAE title at the Asian Power Awards 2025, a leading regional accolade recognizing excellence in the energy sector.
DEWA received the recognition at the Asian Power Awards for its in-house developed DERASAT (Arabic for ‘Studies’) digital platform, marking a significant milestone in digital innovation and advanced power grid data analysis.
The Innovative Power Technology of the Year by Asian Power Awards was presented during an official ceremony held at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, attended by leading energy sector stakeholders from across the region.
Featuring advanced capabilities such as 30-minute load profiling, automated ring analysis, and spike detection, DERASAT delivers analytical insights not available in commercial systems. Its proprietary algorithms have been granted intellectual property rights by the UAE Ministry of Economy, reinforcing DEWA’s leadership in digital innovation and utility data intelligence.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD and CEO – DEWA
“We are committed to providing a motivating environment that encourages employees to develop innovative solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the energy system and achieve the highest standards of availability and performance, in line with DEWA’s approach to digital leadership and smart solutions across its operations. The DERASAT platform reflects our employees’ ability to develop advanced digital solutions with global standards, transforming operational data into accurate analytical tools that support decision-making and have a tangible impact on operational efficiency, cost reduction, and service sustainability.”
Al Tayer noted that DERASAT has automated 95 percent of monthly reporting, delivering peak load reports for over 4,500 medium-voltage rings and nearly 10,000 feeders by the second working day, eight days faster than before.
He added that the platform has saved about $0.95 million (AED 3.5 million), cut annual operating costs by around $0.30 million (AED 1.1 million), eliminated 95 percent of manual work and saved 254 man-hours each month, while centralizing data access for more than 90 DEWA users.
The recognition at Asian Power Awards underscores DEWA’s commitment to digital transformation, operational excellence and smart energy solutions, reinforcing its standing as a regional and global utility leader. It also reflects the authority’s focus on using advanced technologies to boost efficiency, cut costs and support the UAE’s long-term sustainability and clean energy objectives.
