The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) has been honored with the ‘Excellence in Energy – Power’ award at the 2025 Platts Global Energy Awards.
The prestigious accolade, presented by S&P Global Commodity Insights in New York, recognizes ENEC’s outstanding contributions to the energy sector.
This marks the first time in a decade that an exclusively nuclear energy company has received this prestigious award, highlighting ENEC’s exceptional achievement and leadership in the global power sector.
ENEC was recognized for the successful delivery and operation of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the first multi-unit nuclear plant and the largest single source of clean electricity in the Arab world.
The award acknowledges Barakah’s status as a global benchmark for energy projects, as a large-scale civil nuclear energy project delivered safely, efficiently, within schedule, and to the highest international standards, while bringing lasting national and international benefits.
This milestone also underscores the growing importance of nuclear energy as countries worldwide seek reliable, continuous electricity. ENEC’s win solidifies Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s leadership in the global energy sector, positioning the country as a model for civil nuclear best practices.
Further, it reflects the region’s increasing role as a major power producer, capable of meeting the rising energy demands from the AI, tech industries, and heavy industries in need of cleaner, more reliable power sources.
Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi MD & CEO – ENEC
“This award is a clear recognition that nuclear energy is a crucial source of clean baseload electricity. The development of the Barakah Plant and the abundant electricity our highly qualified UAE nationals, together with our international experts, generate is a testament to the vision and unwavering support of the UAE Leadership back in 2008. It has transformed the region’s energy landscape and supported our communities, industries, and growing digital infrastructure with dependable, clean electricity. We are now working with other countries and companies to share our model of civil nuclear success to accelerate the successful and timely deployment of nuclear energy globally.”
The Platts Global Energy Awards, which has acknowledged achievements across the sector for nearly three decades, highlight organizations delivering real impact through their work. ENEC’s Award of Excellence places it in a distinguished group of international power companies recognized for their contributions.
The award also highlights the wider national and international impact of Barakah, which was delivered on time and on budget, becoming one of the world’s most efficient new-build nuclear programs, delivering the stable baseload energy powering the UAE.
