Etihad Airways has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR aircraft during a handover ceremony at the Airbus Finkenwerder site in Hamburg, marking a key milestone in the UAE carrier’s strategic fleet expansion.
The aircraft is the first of 30 A321LRs set to join Etihad’s fleet, offering a widebody experience on short and medium-haul routes and redefining the narrowbody travel segment.
The A321LR’s cabin features Etihad’s first-ever narrowbody First Suites, private, enclosed spaces complete with sliding doors, fully flat beds, and bespoke design elements typically reserved for long-haul widebody aircraft. Each suite is equipped with a 20-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless charging, and space for a companion to join.
The Business cabin of A321LR includes 14 widebody-style seats in a 1-1 herringbone configuration, ensuring every passenger has aisle access and window views. Seats feature 17.3-inch 4K displays, wireless charging, and Bluetooth pairing. In Economy, 144 ergonomic seats offer a comfortable flying experience, featuring 13.3-inch 4K screens, USB charging, and Bluetooth connectivity. Overhead bins have been enlarged to provide significantly more storage space.
Another standout feature is the aircraft’s advanced high-speed Wi-Fi system powered by Viasat, offering gate-to-gate connectivity where permitted. The technology enables seamless streaming, browsing, and gaming with speeds reaching hundreds of Mbps. Wi-Fi coverage on Asian routes is being gradually introduced and is expected to be fully available by September 2025.
The A321LR is scheduled to enter commercial service on 1 August 2025, debuting on the Abu Dhabi–Phuket route. It will later operate on a wide range of international destinations including Algiers, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Kolkata, Krabi, Krakow, Medan, Milan, Paris, Phnom Penh, Tunis, and Zurich.
