The GCC Permanent Committee for Statistical Affairs held its 12th meeting in the scenic Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
The committee has brought together representatives from GCC member states to discuss regional statistical development, data integration, and enhanced cooperation to support informed policymaking and sustainable growth.
The meeting, organized by the GCC Statistical Centre (GCC-Stat), addressed several key topics aimed at strengthening decision-making at the regional level. Discussions included an exchange of views on the initial draft of the Strategic Plan for Joint GCC Statistical Action (2026–2030).
These sets the foundation for enhancing the GCC statistical system to ensure greater integration, efficiency, and utilization of data in shaping and supporting sustainable development policies across member states.
The participants emphasized the significance of the Strategic Plan for Joint GCC Statistical Action, describing it as a comprehensive roadmap by the GCC Statistical Affairs Permanent Committee to guide the next phase of sustainable development in the region.
In addition, the GCC Statistical Affairs Permanent Committee reviewed a proposal to prepare the first GCC Voluntary Report, which will serve as a key tool for monitoring and evaluating the progress of member states in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The GCC Committee also highlighted the importance of a proposal to establish a GCC Environmental Performance Index, which is expected to include a set of indicators designed to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of national statistical bodies across the GCC, thereby strengthening their role in supporting sustainability and evidence-based policymaking.
