The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced that Maersk Group, through its wholly-owned subsidiary APM Terminals, has acquired a 37.5 percent stake in the South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port.

This move positions Jeddah as one of Maersk Group’s key gateways, enhancing connectivity to local markets and its global maritime network.

This integration of the port into Maersk Group’s operational system and direct services will contribute to improved maritime connectivity with regional and international ports, providing greater flexibility and speed in accessing various markets across the Kingdom.

Maersk Group Partnership Boosts Jeddah Islamic Port’s Global Trade Role

The partnership is expected to establish a strategic presence for Maersk at Jeddah Islamic Port, leading to an increase in transshipment volumes and attracting more Maersk shipping lines and partners. This will further solidify Jeddah Islamic Port’s position as a major trade hub on the Red Sea coast.

Furthermore, this development underscores the Kingdom’s attractiveness as a global logistics center and a hub connecting three continents. It also supports the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030 by expanding international shipping connectivity and strengthening the Kingdom’s integration with global supply chains.
