Nama Power and Water Procurement company has signed an agreement with a consortium of companies, including Sembcorp and OQ Alternative Energy to develop Dhofar Wind Power Farm project (Phase II) in the Sultanate of Oman.
The scope of development for the Dhofar Wind Power Farm includes comprehensive activities such as the full design and engineering, construction of all necessary infrastructure and turbine installation, ownership responsibilities, ongoing operation and efficiency monitoring, and regular maintenance to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
This integrated approach also covers site selection, feasibility assessments, and alignment with environmental and technical standards, ensuring the Dhofar Wind Power Farm’s sustainability and effectiveness in contributing to clean energy generation within the region.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Omani Minister of Energy and Minerals, in the presence of Ahmed Salim Al Abri, Chief Executive Officer at Nama Power and Water Procurement company, Vipul Tuli, Managing Director and CEO of Sembcorp Renewable Energy West, and Ghalib Al Maamari, Acting CEO of OQ Alternative Energy company.
The Dhofar Wind Power Farm Phase Two marks a significant step forward in Oman’s progress toward renewable energy. Energy Minister Salim Al Aufi noted that the project, with investments totaling $111 million (RO 43 million), underlines strong investor confidence and highlights the growing importance of renewables in the Sultanate. Once operational, the wind farm will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 158,000 tons each year and deliver clean electricity to more than 18,000 homes.
Al Aufi emphasized that the initiative is essential for achieving Oman Vision 2040 and advancing the country’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. He described the Dhofar Wind Power Farm project as a cornerstone of Oman’s strategy to build a balanced and efficient energy system powered by natural resources and local expertise.
The minister said that Oman sees renewable energy not just as a choice, but as a foundation for a stable, prosperous future. He added that the Dhofar Wind Power Farm agreement illustrates Oman’s determination to transition to a low-carbon economy and to establish itself as a regional hub for clean energy, attracting quality investments and supporting sustainable development.
Ahmed Salim Al Abri emphasized that Phase Two of the Dhofar Wind Power farm Project, with an annual production capacity of about 396,754 megawatt-hours, is a landmark in Oman’s shift to clean energy. He noted that the project will help save approximately 76 million cubic metres of natural gas every year, demonstrating Nama company’s commitment to supporting Oman’s energy and water sectors. This initiative aligns with the country’s efforts to diversify energy sources and ensure the sustainability of its electricity sector.
Vipul Tuli said that the new Dhofar Wind Power Farm project reinforces his firm’s role as a trusted partner in driving the process of energy transition in the region.
Eng. Abdullah Rashid Al Sawafi, CETO of Nama Power and Water Procurement, highlighted that the company continues to strengthen its role as a national driver by implementing an advanced public-private partnership model. This strategy is designed to meet Oman’s rising electricity demand while improving the security and sustainability of supplies, reflecting the company’s leadership in supporting the country’s energy transition and Vision 2040 goals.
