Oman explores ways to boost agro cooperation with Algeria

Oman and Algeria have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the agricultural, fisheries, and water sectors.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed future cooperation prospects, ways to enhance joint initiatives, and coordination in research and technical programs to contribute to achieving sustainable food security and developing vital sectors in both countries.

The discussions between HE Dr. Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Oman Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, which took place during Oualid’s visit to Oman, focused on strengthening joint initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable food security and optimizing the use of natural resources.

HE Habsi welcomed the Algerian delegation and underlined the importance of sustained joint work in agriculture, fisheries, and water resources. He noted the depth of Oman–Algeria relations and their steady development.

Oualid expressed his appreciation for Oman’s achievements in agriculture and fisheries and emphasized Algeria’s interest in enhancing cooperation, particularly through the exchange of expertise in agriculture, marine fishing, and rural development.

During the meeting, officials reviewed a visual presentation titled “Achievements in the Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources Sectors for 2024,” which highlighted key national projects and initiatives implemented throughout the year.

The meeting further included a joint visual presentation exploring “Omani-Algerian Cooperation Opportunities in the Agricultural Sector.” During this segment, a panel of experts from both delegations provided specialized insights into prospective investment domains.

According to the statement, these encompassed advanced knowledge in desert soil management, precision agriculture, date palm cultivation, tropical fruit production, alongside opportunities for developing the horticulture sector and driving agricultural management and transformation.

The meeting concluded with a thorough discussion, where both parties explored future opportunities for cooperation. They identified practical ways to strengthen joint initiatives and improve coordination in research and technical programs, all focused on achieving sustainable food security and fostering the continued development of these crucial sectors in both nations.
