HE Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman has received Asaad Hasan Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, as part of his official visit to the Sultanate.

The meeting between the Omani and Syrian ministers explored avenues to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries and discussed opportunities for joint cooperation in the upcoming phase, particularly in sectors that support reconstruction, investment promotion, and sustainable development.

The two ministers addressed various joint cooperation files, including facilitating procedures for businesspeople and investors, discussing the operation of direct flights between the two countries, and exploring opportunities for Omani companies to contribute to reconstruction and infrastructure development projects in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The officials also discussed means of enhancing the utilization of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), promoting the exchange of goods and services, and facilitating the movement of land and maritime transport, as well as customs and non-customs procedures to further strengthen economic and trade relations between the two nations.

Furthermore, the two sides emphasized the importance of activating the work of the Omani-Syrian Joint Committee to enhance coordination in commercial and investment affairs between the two countries, as well as dispatching specialized technical delegations to both nations to explore and develop promising trade, economic, and investment cooperation opportunities in priority sectors.

This meeting comes within the framework of the two countries’ keenness to cement economic cooperation and exchange investment opportunities, serving common interests and opening new horizons for comprehensive trade integration and sustainable partnership between them.
