Qatar Tourism and Hamad Medical Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at raising awareness about off-road safety among Qatar’s adventurist residents, families, and high-risk groups.

The agreement seeks to enhance collaboration and coordination between the two entities, focusing on safe recreational practices and reducing injuries associated with off-road activities.

Key areas of collaboration

Under the MoU, Qatar Tourism and HMC will implement a series of initiatives to promote safety in desert and recreational settings. These include:

  • School-based awareness programs conducted with road safety officers.
  • Community-focused campaigns and events during peak camping and desert excursion seasons.
  • Targeted safety education for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and four-wheel drive operators.
  • Sharing of best practices, monitoring techniques, and preventative measures.

The partnership will also leverage data from HMC’s trauma registry, enabling Qatar Tourism to identify high-risk locations, evaluate safety protocols, and enhance the management of well-known off-road areas.

“This agreement forms part of a broader initiative with public sector stakeholders to enhance the desert experience while ensuring the utmost safety for residents and visitors. Desert excursions are an integral part of Qatari culture and tourism, and we are committed to working with HMC to implement robust safety measures that allow people to explore Qatar’s landscapes securely.”

Dr. Hassan Al Thani, Head of Trauma and Vascular Services at Hamad Medical Corporation, emphasized that, “Data from the Qatar National Trauma Registry shows that serious ATV-related accidents have not occurred in facilities managed by Qatar Tourism. HMC recommends using these controlled facilities, which are overseen by specialized teams adhering to internationally recognized safety standards.”

Both parties will collaborate to exchange information, provide courses and workshops, and disseminate the latest safety protocols. HMC will provide Qatar Tourism with up-to-date data on severe off-road incidents and related injuries, enabling targeted interventions and risk reduction strategies.
