The Qatar Free Zones Authority and Qatar Airways have signed a strategic collaboration agreement aimed at enhancing the State of Qatar’s competitiveness as a leading global hub for aviation, logistics, and cargo services.

The partnership will drive economic growth by establishing an ‘aviation cluster’ in the Ras bu Fontas free zone to support the maintenance and expansion of Qatar Airways’ growing world-class fleet.

The agreement was signed by CEO of Qatar Free Zones Authority Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer in a signing ceremony attended by senior officials from both organizations and key representatives from Qatar’s logistics and aviation sectors.

The agreement outlines a comprehensive phased plan, beginning with the establishment of an official Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility for Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) in the Ras Bu Fontas Free Zone.

This facility will serve as a cornerstone for future expansion, which will include the development of additional specialized technical sites dedicated to advanced aerospace services and component support. The plan also envisions the creation of a dedicated customs-free corridor seamlessly connecting the free zone with Hamad International Airport and Hamad Port, ensuring the smooth flow of goods, equipment, and spare parts between key logistics nodes.

As part of the collaboration, Qatar Airways will extend a wide range of corporate and cargo privileges to Qatar Free Zones (QFZ) tenants. The airline will also invite its global network of partners and suppliers, including leading international aviation and aerospace companies, to establish a presence in Qatar’s free zones. This initiative is expected to drive investment, create high-skilled job opportunities, and strengthen Qatar’s position as a leading aviation and logistics hub in the region.
