The Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA), in collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), has launched a technology transfer program aimed at boosting commercialization in Saudi universities.

The initiative by RDIA and KAUST seeks to move scientific discoveries and innovations from the lab to the marketplace, thereby strengthening the national economy and driving sustainable growth.

The technology transfer internship program is a first-of-its-kind professional development effort, aimed at upskilling five emerging leaders from research institutions across Saudi Arabia to support more effective commercialization within the Kingdom’s research and government institutions.

The RDIA-KAUST program aims to build national capabilities and expertise in technology transfer, empowering key stakeholders to meet the Kingdom’s ambitious goals for the research, development, and innovation sector.

It contributes to achieving an annual investment target equivalent to 2.5 percent of GDP by the year 2040, supporting economic diversification while advancing science, technology, and innovation across Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Yazid Al-Askar, Executive Director of National Priorities and Acting Deputy Governor for the Innovation Ecosystem Development Sector at RDIA, emphasized that investing in people forms the foundation of any innovation-driven economy.

He noted that the newly launched program is closely aligned with Saudi Arabia’s national priorities and plays a critical role in ensuring that the Kingdom develops the talent and expertise required to effectively translate research into real-world market solutions.

Rooted in global best practices and thoughtfully tailored to suit Saudi Arabia’s evolving innovation landscape, the program offers a dynamic blend of in-person training sessions, virtual learning modules, and a final showcase event. This multifaceted approach equips participants with a comprehensive foundation in technology commercialization, preparing them to navigate the full journey from research to market.
