WSIS 2025: Saudi Arabia reaffirms commitment to digital future

Saudi Arabia has wrapped up its participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, highlighting its commitment to fostering a sustainable and inclusive digital future while contributing to the goals of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

WSIS 2025, held from July 7 to 11, was hosted by ITU in partnership with Swiss Confederation. The event gathered ministers, UN officials, industry leaders, civil society and youth representatives, serving as a platform to review global efforts in driving digital transformation.

Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) board Chairman, led the Saudi delegation, along with Eng. Haytham AlOhali, Communications Vice Minister and CST acting Governor.

They highlighted the Saudi Arabia’s achievements and role in the fields of communications, technology, and AI that support Sustainable Development Goals while strengthening Saudi Arabia’s status as a key player.

The participation also highlights the Kingdom’s vision to advance digital infrastructure, nurture national talent, and foster innovation as a key driver for sustainable development.

The contributions reflected Saudi Arabia’s remarkable progress in global indicators, securing first in the ICT Development Index issued by the ITU, and sixth in the 2024 E-Government Development Index.

Saudi Arabia also announced winning a WSIS prize and three Certificates of Excellence for leading national projects, including the “Madrasati” platform, the Technical Enablement program for non-profit organizations, the International AI Olympiad, and the AI Platform for Animal Health project.

During the forum, the Kingdom actively took part in executive sessions and bilateral meetings, engaging in talks with global leaders in the communications and technology sectors to explore cooperation opportunities in regulation, technical investment, and digital sustainability.

Furthermore, Saudi hosted an international session on “Fostering Sustainable Digital Innovation,” where various national entities and international organizations participated.

Saudi Arabia’s participation also reflects its vision of leveraging advanced technology to serve humanity and promote inclusive development as Riyadh prepares to host the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) in September, reaffirming its dedication to shaping the future of communications and technology.
