The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), represented by the Transport General Authority (TGA), the regulatory and legislative authority for the land, sea and rail transport industry, has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to launch two pioneering international projects.
The maritime agreement, signed by the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, Eng. Kamal Al-Junaidi and IMO Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division Director Dr. Jose Matheickal highlight Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to international maritime initiatives that enhance environmental and human sustainability within the sector.
GloNoise aims to reduce underwater noise pollution, thereby minimizing its environmental impact and protecting marine ecosystems.
The Global Partnership for Mitigation of Underwater Noise from Shipping (GloNoise Partnership) project is part of broader efforts by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), to address the impacts of underwater noise on marine life.
NextWave Seafarers, which seeks to address the shortage of qualified maritime personnel by training 20 male and female trainees from developing countries. The program will prepare them for careers in the industry, while also supporting women’s empowerment and promoting equal opportunities.
This collaboration demonstrates the Kingdom’s leadership in the maritime transport industry and its dedication to global environmental sustainability and human capital development. It aligns with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and reinforces Saudi Arabia’s active role in the international maritime arena.
