The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has announced the successful completion of a new power transmission substation at Aramco Stadium in Al-Khobar.
This key development underscores the SEC’s vital role in strengthening the energy infrastructure for major national projects and ensuring that the facility is fully prepared to host global events.
The project was executed by National Grid SA, the operational arm of Saudi Arabia’s electricity transmission network, under the oversight of the Saudi Electricity Project Development Company. It is part of a comprehensive framework aimed at ensuring high levels of reliability and operational sustainability for the nation’s energy infrastructure.
According to the SEC, the project will strengthen the stability and efficiency of power supply to the stadium, ensuring operational readiness during sporting events and peak periods as Saudi Arabia advances preparations to host the FIFA World Cup 2034.
Furthermore, the scope of work included building a 115/13.8-kV substation and linking it to the grid through more than 2.4 kilometers of underground cables. It also integrated advanced protection and operating systems, including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and communications systems.
The company stated that the project was delivered in 18 months, in line with approved technical and regulatory requirements. National engineering and technical teams participated in the design, execution, and commissioning tests, reflecting the growing local capabilities in the power transmission sector.
SEC added that the completion aligns with its commitment to develop the electricity transmission system, support the operation of sports and service facilities, and strengthen infrastructure readiness in the Eastern Region. The company linked the effort to Saudi Arabia’s long-term targets and its vision of hosting global events to the highest standards.
