The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), in partnership with the Sharjah Finance Department, has launched ‘Masar,’ an advanced electronic system to streamline heavy transport fee collection across the emirate.
The initiative marks a key milestone in Sharjah’s digital transformation, advancing smart infrastructure in line with global traffic and logistics standards.
Strategic digital leap in transport governance
Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, described the Masar project as a qualitative advancement in institutional performance and regulatory oversight of commercial transport. He noted that the system embodies the authority’s strategic vision to modernize heavy vehicle management through comprehensive digital solutions.
The Masar platform is powered by advanced sensing systems and artificial intelligence technologies capable of delivering instantaneous and highly accurate vehicle data readings.
By replacing conventional manual processes with automated digital mechanisms, the system significantly enhances operational efficiency, minimizes human intervention, and elevates accuracy and reliability in toll collection.
Al Othmani emphasized that the Masar extends beyond fee collection, serving as a core enabler of smoother traffic flow. By reducing waiting times at designated truck checkpoints and facilitating seamless passage, the system strengthens the overall performance of Sharjah’s transport network and supports the emirate’s growing logistics sector.
Enhancing transparency and sustainability
The Chairman further highlighted that Masar promotes transparency and regulatory precision through real-time monitoring tools and data-driven reporting capabilities.
These features enable informed decision-making based on reliable analytics while contributing to reduced congestion and lower vehicle emissions—key pillars of Sharjah’s environmental sustainability objectives.
The system aligns with the broader vision of the Sharjah Government to develop a smart, sustainable transportation ecosystem that enhances quality of life and supports comprehensive economic development.
Waleed Al Sayegh, Director-General of the Sharjah Finance Department, underscored the importance of intergovernmental collaboration in delivering the project. He explained that the Masar integrates electronic truck toll gates with the Tahseel smart payment gateway’s digital wallet infrastructure, ensuring seamless financial transactions.
By adopting Tahseel as the approved digital payment channel, the project offers flexible and secure payment options, accelerates transaction processing, and enhances transparency in revenue collection.
The integration also strengthens financial governance while supporting Sharjah’s ambition to position itself as a technologically advanced smart city.
