The Transport General Authority (TGA) and SAMI Autonomous Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in the field of autonomous vessels.
The agreement focuses on advancing the development of regulatory and technical frameworks for the emerging industry.
The MoU was signed by TGA Acting President Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih and SAMI Chief Executive Officer Eng. Thamer bin Mohammed Almuhid.
It was signed on the sidelines of TGA’s participation in the World Defense Show 2026, held in Riyadh from February 8 to 12 under the theme ‘The Future of Defense Integration’ and organized by the General Authority for Military Industries.
The MoU seeks to establish a cooperative framework between the two parties for the development and preparation of regulations, standards, and technical requirements for autonomous vessels. This will be done in accordance with approved regulatory procedures and in alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
According to the statement, it also includes enabling modern technologies related to autonomous vessels and enhancing the exchange of information and expertise in technical and operational aspects.
This move is part of the Transport General Authority’s ongoing efforts to stay ahead of rapid technological advancements in maritime transport. By strengthening its partnership with the private sector, the TGA aims to foster the development of a regulatory environment that encourages innovation.
According to the statement, the collaboration will play a crucial role in advancing the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, ensuring that the UAE remains at the forefront of maritime technological advancements and regulatory excellence.
