The United Arab Emirates has strengthened its intellectual property ties with Spain and Morocco through the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at advancing intellectual property (IP) development in the country.
The agreements, signed by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, align with international best practices in IP management and seek to enhance cooperation between the UAE, Spain, and Morocco. The MoUs were signed during the UAE delegation’s participation in the Sixty-Sixth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.
The signing ceremony was attended by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, who emphasized the importance of the agreements in strengthening the UAE’s position as a global leader in IP development.
The agreements focus on several strategic areas, including the promotion of digital transformation, talent development, and increased coordination in industrial property and patent registration. Both Spain and Morocco bring extensive experience in intellectual property management, and the MoUs aim to leverage their expertise to enhance the UAE’s systems.
A key element of the agreements include the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to improve patent search and classification processes. By adopting these technologies, the UAE aims to streamline patent registration and enhance overall efficiency in the IP sector.
Minister bin Touq highlighted the UAE’s continued commitment to building a comprehensive intellectual property ecosystem and fostering global partnerships. The minister noted that the collaboration with Spain and Morocco represents a significant milestone in exchanging technical knowledge, streamlining registration procedures, and adopting modern compliance standards.
