The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has hosted a senior delegation from Singapore, providing an in-depth overview of the UAE’s nuclear regulatory framework and operational experience.
The engagement reflects the UAE’s leadership in safe and sustainable nuclear energy governance. The discussions also focused on opportunities for knowledge exchange, regulatory capacity building, and technical cooperation between the two countries.
The Singapore delegation was led by Mr. Darryl Chan, Director of the Nuclear Energy Office at the Energy Market Authority (EMA), and included representatives from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, National Environment Agency, Nuclear Research and Safety Institute, and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.
During the visit, FANR showcased the regulatory system it has developed since 2009, covering key areas including nuclear safety, security, and safeguards.
Christer Viktorsson Director General FANR
“For more than 15 years, FANR has played a central role in shaping a robust and independent nuclear regulatory framework in the UAE. Today, with a fully operational nuclear power plant, the country stands as a responsible and forward-looking model for Member States considering the development of nuclear energy.”
Singapore is currently exploring the potential role of nuclear energy as part of its long-term energy security and decarbonization strategy.
The country is studying advanced nuclear technologies and strengthening its policy, research, and regulatory capabilities to support informed decisions on future nuclear energy deployment.
The visit underscores FANR’s commitment to international collaboration and expertise exchange, reinforcing its position as a benchmark for safe, reliable, and sustainable nuclear energy regulation in the UAE and the wider region.
