The United Arab Emirates and Germany have reinforced bilateral cooperation in renewable and clean energy, as senior officials from both sides met in Dubai to advance collaboration on energy transition, clean technology innovation, and climate action.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Jürgen Barke, Minister of Economics, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy and Deputy Prime Minister of the German State of Saarland.

The meeting was attended by senior DEWA officials, including Marwan bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation & the Future, and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources.

During the meeting, Al Tayer highlighted that the DEWA’s strategic initiatives reinforce Dubai’s position as a global hub for clean energy and green economy solutions. He drew particular attention to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park developed under the independent power producer (IPP) model.

The solar park is expected to achieve a production capacity of more than 8,000 megawatts by 2030. It plays a central role in delivering the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100 percent of the emirate’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Al Tayer also emphasized the DEWA’s Green Hydrogen project at the solar park, the first facility of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar power.

The project supports research and development efforts and explores the use of green hydrogen as a clean fuel for mobility, industry, and energy storage applications, contributing to the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy.

He further noted that DEWA continues to deploy advanced technologies across renewable energy, smart grids, energy storage, and digital transformation to enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability across its operations.

Barke commended the UAE’s ambitious clean energy targets and DEWA’s leadership in implementing large-scale renewable energy projects, highlighting the potential for deeper cooperation between the two sides in driving sustainable energy solutions.
